Director of Engineering

Provides leadership and management of the Network Engineering team responsible for the engineering design, planning, installation and upgrades of the enterprise-wide network infrastructure. Establishes engineering standards for the enterprise-wide network. This includes engineering, design, installation of the enterprise-wide network to support strategic and tactical business direction. Maximizes network performance by collaborating with architects on systems optimization.


  • Aligns with the AMR IT Engineering Vision: Service Delivery (consistency, governance, stability and reliability), Technology Excellence, and Teamwork (partnership, communication, cooperation).
  • Manage the enterprise’s network engineering team. This includes hiring, training, staff development, performance management and annual performance reviews.
  • Network Design – Evaluate new and emerging technologies to drive future systems/network capabilities. Oversee development of technical design for critical components and newly approved technologies.
  • Partner with enterprise architects and key business stakeholders to understand future business needs.
  • Network Optimization – Proposes new technology designs to dramatically improve systems/network reliability and performance. Identify new and emerging technologies that will provide significant increases in system/network performance.
  • Ensure enterprise communications network meets or exceed its operational objectives to other business units by establishing best practice processes and maximize the value of its third party service providers.
  • Liaise with the enterprise architecture team to ensure alignment between the network and enterprise architectures, thus coordinating the strategic planning implicit in these architectures.
  • Works collaboratively with the information security team to assist in the detection and mitigation of security events.
  • Flag and escalate business risks timely to IT Leadership.
  • Work with leadership peers to establish and govern the day to day decisions required to effectively manage enterprise communications network.
  • Tracking, reporting and management of key enterprise-wide network infrastructure metrics including team performance and capacity planning in alignment with required support and key initiatives.


Required Skills


  • 10+ years of experience in network design and operations.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience at the Director level.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of Cisco networking and network security technologies and protocols.
  • Technical knowledge of SDWAN (Viptella preferred).
  • Strong leadership experience managing network engineering teams in both a technical and non-technical capacity.
  • Experience partnering with third party providers, MSPs.
  • Extensive knowledge of future technology trends.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Self-motivator that can work with little direction.
  • Cisco Certified engineer, (CCIE and CCNP desired).
  • Experience with Palo Alto Firewalls, Juniper, Fortinet.
  • ITIL certification desired, ITIL/ITSM experience required.
  • 4-year degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
